Artist Profile

Karine Dulyan

Inside me there is a family of artists; that is why the works differ from one another. Each member of that family comes forward, paints for an hour or two, then fades, leaving space for another who wants to create something completely different. It is a constant struggle, not without mistakes. But for me mistakes are springboards for new flights, so I do not fear, but rather enjoy that. “Making mistakes is the key to making progress”. Daniel C. Dennett

I feel that music is the fifth dimension of our lives; it guides me through the painting process, and I believe that each canvas contains music. If one of my works stirs something in you — a memory, a smile, or you hear music — let me know. That is how I will understand which fragment of me found a fragment of you. And perhaps, in these unexpected connections, we will discover that art’s true role today is not to give answers, but to weave invisible threads between lives. Artist Profile

Karine Dulyan

Karine (Karishok) Dulyan is a Yerevan-based contemporary artist whose practice bridges architecture, memory and music. Trained in architecture and urbanism, she spent nearly two decades building schools and shaping cities before returning fully to painting in 2020. Her work spans urban and abstract landscapes, portraits and florals, alongside interactive pieces that invite viewers to complete the experience.

Karishok’s visual language grows from a belief that the pendulum of art is swinging back toward beauty: after decades of irony and distance, we’re returning to work that heals, uplifts and offers visual and emotional joy. In dialogue with neuroscience, she explores how supernormal (peak-shift) stimuli and well-tuned relations of form and colour create a sense of visual harmony — balanced contrast, clear rhythm, gentle variation — that helps the eye and mind “click” with quiet delight. She calls music the “fifth dimension” of life and aims for each canvas to carry its echo.

Inside her, as she often says, lives a “family” of artists. Different temperaments step forward, paint, and yield to the next; that plurality is her engine and mirrors metamodernism’s oscillation between sincerity and irony, hope and doubt, structure and freedom. The result is a body of work that is open rather than closed — kind to the public, accessible without passwords — and that seeks to connect people through recognisable fragments of everyday beauty.

Exhibited in Armenia, Georgia and the United States, Dulyan has been described by Frank Pritchard (CCE) as a spark that inspires and connects across borders. Her mission is simple and urgent: to add not more confusion, but more love, clarity and inspiration.
