Artist Profile
Arpi Chobanyan
Arpi Chobanyan is an Armenian contemporary artist whose practice explores the emotional dimensions of human experience through painting. Her work is grounded in an interest in love, intimacy, human connection, vulnerability and the complex inner landscapes that shape individual experience.
Working primarily through painting, Chobanyan uses colour, movement, gesture and layered forms to translate intangible emotions into a visual language. Rather than depicting emotions literally, she approaches the canvas as a space where feelings can unfold, overlap and transform. Her paintings invite the viewer into an intimate encounter with experiences that are often difficult to articulate through words.
A central body of her artistic practice is Dance of Love, a painting series exploring love as a powerful and transformative human experience. The works examine intimacy, attraction, vulnerability, emotional connection and the subtle exchange between two people. Love is understood not simply as a romantic emotion, but as a force capable of transforming the individual and influencing the way people perceive themselves and one another.
Through expressive compositions and an intuitive approach to colour and form, Chobanyan creates works in which physical presence and emotional experience become closely intertwined. Her figures and abstract forms are not intended merely as representations of the human body, but as carriers of emotion, memory and inner experience.
Chobanyan’s artistic language is informed by her background in fashion design and visual arts. Her education has developed a strong sensitivity to composition, colour, texture, movement and materiality, which she translates into her contemporary painting practice.
Her approach to painting is intuitive and emotionally driven. She is particularly interested in the moment when an internal experience becomes visible—when an emotion, relationship or personal memory can be transformed into colour, movement and form.
For Chobanyan, painting is a way of creating a dialogue between the inner and outer worlds. Her works seek to create an emotional space in which viewers can recognise their own experiences, memories and feelings. The painting therefore becomes not only an image, but a personal encounter between the artwork and the viewer.
